The Green Police

Did anyone else see the Audi TV spot during the Super Bowl?

It was a series of vignettes of folks being arrested by "The Green Police". The GP goes through curbside garbage bags and if they find a mercury battery, it's "Go! Go! Go!" and they bust into the guy's house and arrest him. They busted a guy for failing to compost an orange peel. They busted a guy for using an incandescent light bulb. A cop pulls over a motorist and says, "Is that a styrofoam coffee cup, sir?" The driver stammers, "Um, I guess..." And the cop says, "Please get out of the car and put the cup on the roof."

They were advertising the Audi "clean diesel" engine.

But I was shocked by the spot. It was not funny!

  1. ...and of course, the cashier initiating the question, "Paper or plastic?" acting as a state agent, would mean the idea came from the State, i.e. ENTRAPMENT. Not that standards of LAW mean anything...
I had a friend, years ago, when things became 'tighter', who stated, "I wonder what I'm gonna do, when they ask, MAY I SEE YOUR PAPERS?"
You are right, this is definitely NOT FUNNY!
(and Paper or Plastic sounds like "when did you stop beating your wife?")

  2. I caught the commercial and saw it as prophetic commentary. BTW, if Audi thinks the Green Police will leave them alone, I have a bridge to sell. They'll just go after them later.

    Useful idiots.

  3. Agreed, it wasn't funny and I think is a harbinger of things to come...

  4. Not the least bit funny, especially when the original Nazi 'Green Police' history is known. They REALLY should have known better.

  5. There is always a lot of truth in humor (or attempts at humor). If they are joking about it now, it is only because they know that they do not have the ability to pull it off just yet.

It doesn't mean that they've given up on the idea...

  6. I thought it was hilarious until the "green" car got waved through the checkpoint -- up until that point, it was a fine example of state excess and meddling. After that -- oh, wait, they're supposed to be the good guys? Crap. Not funny.

  7. Yeah, I saw that one, too. I suppose it may reach that point, but the law's not yet in place to allow for Eco-Cop raids and such. I mused aloud that if Green Vigilantes tried to treat US that way, they might take some comfort that I'd be shooting them with reloaded cartridges.

  8. Yeah, it pissed me off as well. It's your blog so I won't write what I think and feel about ANY firm that would pay for such a commercial message, but it doesn't take a stretch of the imagination on anyone's part...

  9. Ditto. If the Greenies appeared, I think there'd be a run on ammo around here. Folks in Missouri just wouldn't put up with it.

We have a history of taking care of public hazards.
