What Color Is The Boathouse At Hereford?

There seem to be many different possible answers to that time-honored question.

But first, what is this Big Round Thing?

And what is this Little Round Thing?

They've got their own orchard, we know that.

And some sort of Big Square Thingy. Avec flagpole.

Nice antenna.

What say you, Bobbi? Appears to me to be a broadband ten-element high-frequency Yagi. I'd love to own one.

There's a double fence around the whole place, with camera towers every hundred meters or so.

And a bit farther down the road we see the antenna in the distance. More like twelve to fifteen elements, I'd say. Like the one at the Pentagon. Maybe they talk to each other: "dit-dit-dit-dit-dit..."

They've got lots of stuff, but I don't see a boathouse. Musta been one of those trick questions.

Hey, what's that weird tower on the horizon? How'd I miss that?

OK, there it is. Maybe that's the mysterious boathouse.

"'ello, 'ello, 'ello! What's all this, then? That's as far as you go, Yank. Nothing to see 'ere. Just turn your fancy camera car around and get yer arse back to Cupertino."

"You think we're barmy? Get lost!"

"Um, Constable, is there a boathouse around here?"
"Bloody git!"

See for yourself here.

If I remember correctly, the first 'big' antenna is the HF-DF array... The others? Beats the hell outta me.

Log-periodic or "fishbone?" Looks like.

Log periodic is my guess. N-V

I believe the big circle is a stone circle, or "henge".

The funny looking tower is for parachute training and/or rappelling, I believe.

Now I'm thinking it's not a log periodic because the elements appear co-linear. A Yagi "fishbone" is more likely.

Druids? I thought the big circle might be what was left of an old radio tower, with the transmitter house in the center, surrounded by guy wire supports. There is no shadow from a mast.

Of course the joke in Ronin is that DeNiro's character does not know the color of the boathouse at Hereford either ...

Sorry Turk but you're a bit of in the wrong place. your pics are of the former RAF Credenhill - 22 SAS did not move there until 1999. Since Ronin was 98 (Correct me if I'm wrong, I usually am) the boathouse question would have been about Stirling Lines (sold in 2001) right in the middle of a housing estate in Hereford. Lots of boathouses on the river. You're braver than I am playing hide and seek with MOD plod.

First one is an AN/FLR-9 CDDA Elephant Cage, the 'big square thingy' is a biconical, and theres a big log periodic there somewhere - the others I'll leave to the experts

A Wullenweber it is!

Indeed Master, there used to be rumint that there was a Plessey pusher there (which would make it a AN/FRD-13. but personnally I think that's just hot aer :-) )

Looked again and the 'nice antenna' is your log periodic. The 'And what is this Little Round Thing?' I have no idea, but the building on the right is the church??

Much to learn, I still have

I had no idea that the druids were that technologically advanced! :o

But Tam, as a dedicated Pratchettologist I have long been aware of 'triumph of the silicon chunk, a miracle of modern masonic technology' (The Light Fantastic) :-)
