Support for stricter gun laws has declined from 78% in 1990 to 44% in 2009. And that includes a 5% drop just in the last year. Just guesswork on my part, but I would say that the 5% drop was due to the millions of Americans who went into a gunshop in the last year to buy their first gun, and found out just what hurdles an honest, law-abiding citizen faces to purchase a handgun. Two forms of identification, two long affidavits (one federal, one state) plus a call to the FBI? Surely that should be sufficient?h/t Alphecca.
