Day Seven: Last night we heard gunshots. My Pashtu is not very good, but I think I overheard one of the caravan drivers telling another that we lost two camels. Maybe he said we lost two men; or two rifles. I wanted to ask him about it. Best thing to do, tho', is not to ask; best thing to do is keep your eyes straight ahead and your mouth shut. Shooting at night is unusual for people like these: the muzzle flashes give your position away, and you can't aim worth a damn. Probably they were just scaring off some thieves. Nothing to worry about.
